I bought an APR stage 1 ECU tune from them 3.5 years ago for my almost stock 1998 Audi A4 1.8T. The only upgrade was a brand new K04 turbo which I told them about. They sent the computer away to APR for the chip, and when it was returned to GMP it did not have all the components that APR needed to install (APR's fault). It was returned to APR for the missing work. Once installed on my car, the tune worked only intermittently. I did not bring it back to GMP as I could not afford to be without my car for another long period of time and I was already tired of being given the run around and being told things that were not correct.
Fast forward to 6 months ago, I finally dropped it off at GMP to diagnose why the tune worked only intermittently. I had another car I was driving and told them I did not want my Audi back until the problem was fixed. I also asked them to detail the car after seeing their advertisement on the wall for an in house detail. During the 3 months they had the car, they said there was a misfire that did not trip the check engine light, changed some components which fixed it, but could not get the tune to work. They said they talked multiple times with APR, sent the computer back to verify the software was installed, and could not figure out why their product would not work. They said APR could not help either. They were at the point where they said even though my car seemed to run perfectly, they would have to start randomly replacing parts, and at that point I decided it was pointless for them to work on my car any more so I picked it up. To GMP's credit, they only charged me for the spark plugs, and no labor. The detail was comped as well, but I wish I didn't get it. More on that later. I had requested a refund for the 500 dollars I spent on the ECU program but GMP said it was too late, and they would not refund me the money, I needed to take it up with APR.

When I got the car, I noticed the button to switch engine programs no longer worked. Previously I could switch between programs and the check engine light would flash to confirm the change (even if the program did not actually work). Now, the button has no effect. So basically the tune works less than it did prior to dropping the car off.

In addition, in different light I noticed that my 9 month old paint job now had swirl marks from the buffer that the detailer used. The detail did not clean the rear view mirror, the A pillar, the console, or the headliner as well. Since they did not charge me for it, I did not bother calling GMP to complain, but now I'll have to get the paint damage fixed elsewhere.

I've spoken with APR since then, and while they were well aware of GMP and had good things to say about them, nobody I spoke with (Justin, Ryan, or Grant) remembers talking with GMP about my car. In addition, the lead technician Grant just told me that the tune will not work with a K04 turbo. If this is true, GMP should have told me this when I initially purchased the tune. Even if they overlooked it then, they should have figured it out during the 3 months they had my car. I severely doubt they spent much, if any time at all on my car, and as a result I even doubt the existence of a misfire when I dropped it off.

Maybe they are better with higher end cars, but I'd rather they told me they didn't want my business so I could shop a competitor, rather than sell me a product that doesn't work, and one they can't and/or won't service.

They kept my car for about 120 business hours (3 weeks) to do 4.4 hours of service. I had an appointment for what it's worth. My issue wasn't documented correctly by the customer service rep, and I ended up leaving there with the same issue I wanted GMP to diagnose and fix. After going from shop to shop, trying to get my lights fixed, I don't have the energy to dispute it with them.
